Description

Oil painting without the long wait or the heavy smell

Pébéo Studio XL Oil is made for artists who want the richness of oil paint in a more modern, practical form. The formula has a much milder smell than traditional oil paints and dries to the touch quickly, so you can add another layer after about three days instead of waiting weeks. That makes it a good fit for beginners, students, and acrylic painters who want to try oils.

The colours are bright and strong, made with lightfast synthetic organic pigments, and the thickness is the same from one colour to the next, so mixing and layering feel predictable. It suits every technique, from thin glazes to heavy impasto.

A full range of colours
Pébéo Studio XL comes in a wide palette, from classic earth tones and primaries to vivid modern shades. Pick the colours you need as individual tubes, or build a full palette over time. Because the colours mix easily, a few primaries plus white and black will take you a long way.

Choose your size

  • 37ml tube: A handy size for trying new colours, building a palette, and small to medium work. Easy to store and carry.
  • 200ml tube: A large tube for the colours you use most, such as whites, blacks, and mixing colours, and for large canvases and class use. It costs less per ml.

Many painters buy small tubes for accent colours and large tubes of white and a few staple shades.

Tips for better results

  1. Paint “fat over lean”: start with thinner layers and finish with richer, oilier ones. This helps prevent cracking as the paint dries.
  2. Thin the paint with oil, an essence, or a painting medium, depending on the effect you want.
  3. Use a prepared surface such as primed canvas, a primed board, or properly sealed wood. Bare paper and board can absorb the oil.
  4. Mix colours on a palette or tray, and squeeze out only what you need to avoid waste.
  5. Clean brushes with a suitable brush cleaner or solvent, then wash them with soap and water.
  6. Work in a well-ventilated room, even though the odour is mild.
  7. Replace the cap on the tube straight away so the paint doesn’t skin over.
  • Oil paint and acrylic paint don’t mix. Don’t paint acrylic over oil, and prime your surface properly for oils.
  • Although it dries to the touch quickly, a thick oil painting is only fully cured after a longer time. Wait before varnishing.
  • Colours may look slightly different on screen than in person.
  • Keep out of reach of young children.
