Filbert sisal brush
KSh 2,400.00 – KSh 3,200.00Price range: KSh 2,400.00 through KSh 3,200.00
A filbert brush with coarse sisal bristles and a rounded edge, made for soft, blended texture. It stipples, scrubs, and dry brushes without hard edges, which makes it a good choice for foliage, clouds, bark, and rustic finishes.
Description
Texture with softer edges
A filbert is a flat brush with a rounded tip, and with sisal bristles it gives you a different kind of texture from a standard flat. Marks come out looser and more organic, with no hard straight edges, so the texture blends naturally into the surface around it.
Sisal is a stiff natural plant fibre, so the brush leaves open, broken strokes that smooth brushes can’t. Use it to add grain, foliage, stone, bark, and weathered effects to a painting or craft piece.
Why you’ll like it
- Coarse sisal bristles that create strong, natural texture
- Rounded filbert shape that blends texture without hard edges
- Good for stippling, scrubbing, dry brushing, and dabbing
- Suitable for acrylic and craft paints, and for decorative finishes
- Two sizes, so you can match the brush to the area you’re covering
- From Royal & Langnickel, a well-known name in brushes
Great for
- Foliage, trees, bushes, and grass
- Clouds, mist, and soft atmospheric effects
- Bark, stone, and weathered surfaces
- Dry brushing highlights over a base colour

- Decorative wall effects and faux finishes
- Art classes and workshops
Techniques to try
- Stippling: Dab the brush straight onto the surface for a speckled, soft-edged texture.
- Dry brushing: Load a little paint, wipe off the excess, and drag lightly across a dry surface.
- Scrubbing: Work the paint in with short, rough strokes to blend colour and add grain.
- Pouncing: Tap the brush up and down for a soft, even texture over larger areas.
Care tips
- Wash with warm water and soap straight after use, since dried paint is hard to remove from coarse bristles.
- Work the bristles gently to release the paint, and rinse until the water runs clear.
- Reshape the bristles and let the brush dry flat or with the bristles pointing down.
- Don’t leave the brush standing in water or solvent.
- Use separate brushes for different paints to keep colours clean.
- Sisal is rough by design. For smooth, even coverage, choose a synthetic brush instead.
- Natural fibres can shed a few bristles when new. Brush them off before the paint dries.
- Keep out of reach of young children.
