Royal & Langnickel Sisal Flat Brush, No. 30
KSh 2,500.00
A flat brush with coarse sisal bristles, made for texture work. It creates scrubbed, stippled, and dry-brushed effects that smooth brushes can’t, and it’s a favourite for decorative finishes, rustic looks, and crafts. Size No. 30.
Description
Texture, character, and bold marks in one brush
Sisal is a natural plant fibre with a stiff, coarse feel, and it gives this flat brush a very different character from a standard paintbrush. Instead of laying down smooth, even colour, it leaves open, broken, textured strokes. That makes it ideal for adding grain, rustic effects, and surface interest to a painting or craft piece.
The flat shape lets you cover a wide area quickly or print a bold texture with a single press. Use it with acrylic or craft paint, or with stains and decorative finishes, to create the look you’re after.

Techniques to try
- Stippling: Dab the brush straight onto the surface for a speckled, textured finish.
- Dry brushing: Load a little paint, wipe off the excess, and drag lightly across a dry surface to catch the raised texture.
- Scrubbing: Work the paint in with short, rough strokes to blend colour and add grain.
- Dragging: Pull the brush in one direction to create wood grain or bristle lines.
Care tips
- Wash the brush with warm water and soap straight after use, since dried paint is hard to remove from coarse bristles.
- Work the bristles gently to release the paint, and rinse until the water runs clear.
- Reshape the bristles and let the brush dry flat or with the bristles pointing down, not upright in a jar.
- Don’t leave the brush standing in water or solvent, since this can damage the bristles and handle.
- Use separate brushes for different paints to keep your colours clean.
- Sisal is rough by design. For smooth, even coverage, a synthetic or natural-hair brush is a better choice.
- Natural fibres can shed a few bristles when new. Brush them off the surface before the paint dries.
- Keep out of reach of young children.
